My Debut Book: What Are the Chances

Kaydee Kate

It was fall softball season when I got the idea to write this story. I was driving to one of my daughter's games and I had just passed the cute kid down the street's house. He's a few years older than her (great kid, just older) and I remember my conversation to her about him. He's a not right now boyfriend... more of a later on when your older boyfriend... if that makes sense.

Anyway, while I was driving by his house I thought. "I should write an age gap romance," and that was as far as my inspiration went. The story is in no way shape or form related to my kid or the cute kid. I took the season, baseball and softball, an idea about age differences and ran with it.

It took me about a year from the moment I got the idea until the book was published.  I had started several different manuscripts, this one just seemed to write itself though. I did go back and make plenty of edits, moved things around, erased, added... blah, blah, blah then send to beta readers, made more edits, sent to an editor, made more edits then hit publish.

Mind you, this is coming from someone who had a degree in accounting, so I am absolutely stoked I could even write something 61k words long and it even flow.

I was terrified to let anyone read it, but I kept telling myself I'm not a write, I don't have an English degree, I shouldn't have a 100% perfect piece of work (and I didn't!) I did have fun though. I actually enjoyed the process. I'm a creative at heart, so I loved the creativity writing a story gives you.

I hope to be able to finish the several works in progress I have waiting on me. So, for now I'll leave you with the trailer and blurb!

On a mission to get through a recent break-up, past softball All-Star Jayden Grey wakes up beside the older green-eyed hottie she met at the bar the night before. Embarrassed, but relieved knowing she will probably never see him again only to find out six months later the guy is her younger brother's summer baseball coach. On top of her already busy life, plus a jealous ex-wife making things awkward; staying away from him is harder than it should be.

Chase didn't even know anything was missing in his life. He is quite content being a single dad and having the time of his life coaching his son's baseball team. Finding out the woman he drove home just after his separation is his second baseman's sister has him stumbling through practice trying to figure out how to see her again.

Is he the steamy distraction she needs? Or will their age difference and the ex-wife's meddling drama be the deal breaker?

"What Are the Chances" is a fast-paced spicy contemporary sports romance with an age gap and fake dating tropes with multiple points of view.

Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

Yes, I jumped on that band wagon. It's been in my TBR for a while now, and quite honestly, I wish I would have waited to read it until the third book was out. I just started the second book, Iron Flame, and I just know I'm going to have to read the third.

In this romantasy, Violet, who was raised and trained to be a scribe, gets forced into the rider's quadrant where she escapes death, makes friends, and finds out she a little more bad ass than she thought. There's instant attraction when she first lays eyes on Xaiden. Their love/hate relationship is entertaining, and I couldn't wait for their next interaction.

I especially liked the twist at the end!

Rating I gave on GoodReads: 5/5

Spice level: I would say 3.5 out of 5
